5 Cozy and Warm Fall Pajamas for Women

It's officially fall, which means it's officially pajama season! Full disclosure: if you're like us, pajama season is actually every season, but there's something about the fall weather that makes pajamas extra inviting.

We've put together this list of our favorite fall pajamas for every type of pajama-based activity: playing with your kids, snuggling up with a good book, sipping hot chocolate, watching the rain, and binge-watching your favorite spooky TV show (is Stranger Things coming back? Someone tell us Stranger Things is coming back!)

No matter what you'll be wearing your fall pajamas for, we guarantee you'll find the perfect pair on this list. Let's dive in!

What to Look For in Pajama Sets

The best women's pajamas are comfy, cozy, and stylish. Personally, we love a good pair of oversized sweat pants and a cute vintage t-shirt (preferably bearing the logo of some long-dead rock band.)

But your jam might be flannel pajamas, cotton pajamas, or pajama shorts and a tank top.

Whatever your preferred fall pajamas look, make sure you choose fabrics that are breathable, lightweight, and warm but not too warm. The best fabrics will vary depending on where you live and what season it is. Flannel pajamas are a nightmare in warm, humid climates, but perfect for places where temperatures dip below freezing overnight.

In general, opt for natural fibers over synthetic fibers, as these will allow your body to regulate its temperature more easily. If you do go synthetic, polyester is a good bet as it's lightweight and breathable.

Best Fabrics for Warm Nights

If you live in a warm climate or are a hot sleeper (maybe you're going through menopause or dealing with night sweats) look for moisture-wicking, anti-fungal fabrics like bamboo, cotton, eucalyptus, and other natural plant fibers. Steer clear of polyester and silk.

Best Fabrics for Cool Nights

For those in cooler climates, especially where the whether is very dry, try flannel, thermal cotton, fleece, and silk. It sounds counterintuitive, but silk is a great heat-trapper because it allows air to get close to the skin, creating a warm cushion between the body and the fabric.

Best Fall Pajamas and Women's Pajamas for Fall

We've included fall pajamas for both hot and cold climates, with pajama looks ranging from sleep shirts and shorts to complete matched pajama sets with must have prints.

Cozy and Wild

These matching joggers and sweater are great for cool nights. Made from buttery soft, super warm fabric with cuffed sleeves, waist, neck, and ankles, they keep heat close to the body and don't let any of that precious warmth out!

They come in a range of prints and colors - but we really love the black and white leopard print look. The best part? You can mix and match or even wear them as separates during the day (the sweater in particular looks great paired with your favorite jeans or a funky skirt!)

Classic Flannel

This wardrobe staple is a must-have for any cold weather pajama collection. Nothing screams "fall pajamas" like red and black flannel print with fleecy lining and a pair of slippers.

We're actually going to go out on a limb here and recommend men's flannel pajama pants because 1. POCKETS, and 2. it's so hard to find that classic plaid look in women's pajamas (don't ask us why, everyone seems to assume we want pink, or ribbons, or other annoying details.)

This pair of flannel PJ bottoms from The Pajama Company are 100% cotton flannel with a classic red plaid print and super cute moose detail. The waistband is elastic (so they won't fall down even if they are a little big) and also has a drawstring. The fly buttons.

Sophisticated in Silk

There's something so luxurious about silk, isn't there? Something that almost makes you feel like you shouldn't wear it every day. But guess what? We're here to tell you that you can (and you should!) For cooler, drier climates, silk makes excellent sleepwear material - it's soft, comfy, breathable, and keeps heat in.

This matching silk long sleeve pant set from Lunya is everything you want in a pair of silk pajamas. Subtle, sophisticated, luxurious - and washable! It will give you that 'cool side of the pillow' feeling while looking elegant and being easy to clean.

This set comes in a range of colors, but we love the Calliope Wine look for fall pajamas.

Rock and Roll PJs

We couldn't let this list go by without recommending one of our favorite pajama looks: comfy sweats and a vintage tee. While we don't necessarily recommend this combo for sleepwear (except on very cool nights, or maybe when you're camping) it makes great loungewear, and doubles as a casual Friday college outfit in a pinch.

When we wear sweats, we usually look for classic, oversized, wide-leg pants, with a thick, elasticated waistband and a cuff at the bottom. If the inside is fleecy, so much the better. We recommend Hanes - the OG sweatpants-creators.

When it comes to t-shirts for your fall pajamas, jersey knit is great, but tri-blend is our favorite. Etsy is a great place to shop for vintage tees.

Footie Pajamas

Footie pajamas are kind of all the rage right now, so we felt like we should include them in this list. To be completely honest, after wearing a pair for a little while, we did discover some of the drawbacks of this style (the bottoms of the feet can get torn up and grubby, and the insides can make your feet a bit sweaty!)

To get the best of both worlds out of this look, we recommend looking for pants that have convertible feet - so you can pop your tootsies out to breathe from time to time and save the bottoms from getting torn up while you're walking. This footed onesie with detachable feet from Sleepytime PJs is a great option.

Get Cozy This Fall

Cool nights are coming - get your fall pajamas now! Whether you're looking for sleep clothes, loungewear, or an outfit to run to the coffee shop for your venti PSL, fall pajamas are a must-have in any sleepwear wardrobe.
