What Swimwear Trends Are In for Summer 2024?

Spring is drawing to a close, and swimsuit season is upon us! This is perfect timing because we just finished putting together a list of our favorite swimsuit trends for 2024!

What's Trending in Swimwear?

Swimsuits are getting easier and easier to integrate into your summer wardrobe these days, as things like sporty black bikini tops become acceptable athleisure and even day wear (thanks for normalizing nakedness, Megan Fox!) Pair a tankini top with a pair of jean shorts and you've got a perfectly acceptable and versatile summer look.

Even better, swimsuits are becoming more sustainable, and the bathing suit industry is leading the charge in making garments out of recycled materials and eco-friendly fabrics. That's one of those swimsuit trends we can really get behind!

So let's dive in (pun totally intended) to our biggest swimwear trends of 2024!

Girl-Core

The girl-core aesthetic continues to trend in 2024, with celebs like Taylor Swift, Beyonce and Rihanna embracing "stereotypically feminine" looks, the rise of "girl math" and a slew of coquettish, frilly, fun, uber-girly looks.

Swimwear is no exception to this trend. Girl-core looks in swimwear range from soft pastel colors, floral prints, frilled and scalloped sleeves and necklines, and one piece swimsuits that accentuate your curves.

Girl-core looks are fun and flirty, and allow you to embrace femininity without feeling "silly." Sure, it's not for everyone, but if lace, ribbons, bows, and pink pixie-dust are your jam, consider incorporating some girl-core looks into your beach trips or your next tropical getaway!

Heavy Metal

Those who like their swimsuit looks to have a little edge might prefer a different trend: metal. One of our favorite swimsuit and bikini trends this year is metal details like chunky gold and silver clasps, hoops, and belts. It feels super luxurious while also being edgy.

Another way that metal is being incorporated into swim styles is through swimsuit fabrics with metallic sheens. Any cute high-waist bottoms, classic bikinis, halter tops - can look fresh and swanky with a silver sheen, but we personally love a modest one-piece swimsuit with a metallic sheen and few bold metallic details.

Funky Prints

Let's face it: animal print bikinis never really go away, do they? Jungle print is one of those timeless bikini trends - like the black swimsuit or white bikini. We love a classic animal print bikini top paired with a black bikini bottom, but prints in unexpected colors are also fun (why not go for green instead of pink?)

Girl-core lovers can incorporate jungle prints into their looks by adding frills, or opting for a softer, more subtle print.

Natural Women

Neon is out and muted, earthy tones are in. Natural colors look great on any skin tone, and they fit in in almost any environment: whether you're lounging on the beach, hanging by the pool, or relaxing at a resort.

Swimwear on the whole - and perhaps fashion in general - is tending to lean toward a "back to basics" approach in recent years, eschewing complicated patterns and bright colors for a more subtle, natural look. We love it!

And remember: natural doesn't necessarily mean neutral! Embrace your inner Mother Nature with deep greens and blues, dusty pink and rich brown, mustard, maroon, and even lilac, poppy red, and burnt orange.

The One Piece

You can thank Pamela Anderson for the resurgence of this timeless classic. Her elegant, makeup-free return to the spotlight at last year's Paris Fashion Show has her trending again - and the one piece swimsuit look - one that she made famous during her Baywatch years - is trending too.

We're not saying you have to go for the bright red, super-cheeky, busty look that Pam was rocking in the nineties (although, if that's what you're into, go for it!) One piece swimsuits can be as daring or as modest as you want them to be.

We love a one-piece with a square neckline. Or how about this super modest cap-sleeve look with a cute bow detail in the back? Combine the look withbold, floral print for a 1970's throwback vibe (also trending right now, by the way.)

High-Waist Bottoms

By far our favorite trend from the last five years, we're excited to see that high-waist bikinis aren't going away! They're flattering, versatile, keep everything where it should be, and pair great with either tankini tops, surf tops, or more traditional bikini tops.

Our Thoughts on Swimwear Trends

We love that swimwear is taking a turn toward natural, wearable, sustainable looks. More than ever, people are opting for looks that allow them to move and enjoy their beach time - whether that's swimming, surfing, chasing the kids around, or just strolling in the sand.

Don't forget: swimsuit trends are fun to read about, but at the end of the day, the best swimsuit for you is always the one that makes you feel best! Just because something is trending doesn't mean it's right for your body. You do you, and if that means bucking the trend (or creating your own!) then so be it!
